STAFF REPRESENTATIVE ELECTION*
BYLAWS: ARTICLE IV-STAFF REPRESENTATIVES
SECTION 1
(a) Each staff shall elect its staff
representatives for the following school year by June 20th of the
previous school year, and forward the name immediately to the unit
executive. The alternates shall be elected by September 15th of the
following year.
(b) In the event that an elected staff
representative is unable to, or fails to, carry out the duties inherent
in the office, the staff may elect a new staff representative.
(c) To qualify as a candidate for staff
representative a teacher must be on staff at the time of the election.
(d) In electing a staff representative,
it is strongly recommended that the teacher have a permanent contract
with the Toronto Catholic District School Board.
Procedures for a Staff Representative
Election
1. The Staff Rep calls a meeting solely for OECTA
members for the purpose of the election of the Staff Rep. Where possible
the current Staff Rep should attempt to notify members on leave with
the right to return to the school in the next school year (teachers
on a statutory maternity leave, a first extension or sick leave).
2. The OECTA members present appoint an Election's Chair
from the OECTA membership present. The Election's Chair asks for the
names of members who wish to stand for the position of Staff Rep.
The Election's Chair lists the names of the candidates for Staff Rep,
distributes ballots only to those present, collects the completed
ballots, counts the ballots and announces the results of the election.
3. If there is only one candidate nominated, that candidate shall
be acclaimed.
4. A further election shall be held for the position of Alternate
Staff Rep.
5. The current Staff Rep completes the following information and faxes
it to the TECT Office at 416-398-7055 - Attention Anthony Bellissimo.

subsection to read (aj):
To annually determine an appropriate honorarium for staff representatives.
